What Style Is My Home. Realty Professionals 805-474-7040. Many people, especially Architects and Real Estate Agents disagree on what style a home or building is. The short list of primary styles is: Traditional, Spanish, Craftsman, Tudor, Mediterrean, Modern, Colonial, Early National and Romantic, Bungalow, Victorian, Ranch or one of a hundred other sub-styles? Have you determined the Style of your home? Well if you are in California that may be difficult as over the years Architects, Home Builders, Home Owners and Designers have taken from various styles and mixed them all together either from the beginning design and build to individual remodels.
Here is a quick list of things to consider: The exterior appearance such as the roof shape and pitch, building size and number of stories, window size and placement, door shape and placement, decorative details and trim, construction materials such as brick, stone, stucco or wood, footprint, floor plan, historic period when built to the location of the building and Architect. The interior design, layout, amenities and material used help determine the style as well. Some Architects have their own Branding and Style such as Frank Lloyd Wright.
If you have a home that has a mixed appearance of Spanish and Craftsman on the exterior but is very basic such as a bungalow interior that is basic in detail and design you might have what is called a Neo-Eclectic design, meaning an Eclectic Mix of details from various styles in combination with each other.
